July 10, 2026 Remembering Serendipity

Three years ago, was such a long time ago. I was nearing a kind of early retirement and had everything that some people wish they had, but I had lost my passion for living. I thought I had experienced everything and had opportunities that many could only dream of and early retirement wasn’t the place I wanted to be.

I was watching a show called Twilight Live on The Weather Channel in the early morning hours every morning while I emailed my friends. The soothing meditation music and celestial weather gave me a peaceful way to start my day. One day it was gone. I was disappointed. I had really grown to rely on the program to give me a peaceful feeling at the start of the day revealing the world’s weather and God’s handiwork in my universe.

I looked for it for about a week and nothing. One day while I was looking for it, it was three in the morning in Western Washington where I was and I noticed 3 weather people on The Weather Channel who seemed to be enjoying each other’s company in the early morning hours while telling us about the weather. I thought I’d give it a try. This was something different. They had exciting technology that I enjoyed, and they gave words to weather that I could only feel. Western Washington didn’t have the significant and passionate weather that was in the other parts of the country. I knew this because I lived in Tallahassee and Mississippi for a few years previously. You could feel the weather there.

Somehow, they reminded me of my passion for weather when I lived in that part of the country, my work in television and how happy I was when I lived it. I watched, perplexed what they woke up in my consciousness.

In the meantime, a previous boss got a hold of me and said they needed help at their company, and I was hired on to help them. I was back to work. I had several serendipitous moments and revelations and had informative interviews with professionals. I bought cameras, computers, editing software and went back to school in video editing and started pursuing a meteorology degree before and after work and started a website. My life was changing and my life was renewing. I felt alive again.

We never know what is going to impact our lives. It could be anything. I still do not understand the passion that came back to me, but I’m grateful what they instilled. We never know how we will touch others' lives just by living our own. God used people in weather to give me my passion for life back. I really don’t know if they will ever understand how significant that was for me. At that time in my life, it was everything and I know I have touched many other people's lives because of it.
